Behind the seams of Victoria Pearce
I am currently studying for a Degree in Fashion Design at Nottingham Trent University, I have had a leadership role in the fashion show committee and been a reliable member of a sports society.
I am currently studying at Nottingham Trent University building skills that include team working and time management as we spent 4 months working in a group, creating a line-up of menswear outfits and presenting this to industry. This presentation has helped me gain confidence in my presenting skills and practice speaking in front a group of people. I also enjoyed dressing for final year students fashion shows and discovered a lot about how to better plan my own fashion shows. This was a good opportunity of my problem-solving skills here for example when the model’s shoes did not stay on and creating new straps to hold them on. My quick thinking and hard work helped a lot in this environment.
During my time at university, in work and volunteering I have picked up a lot of valuable skills. These include team work, responsible leadership, intercultural inclusion and probably the most important would be problem solving and quick thinking. I aspire to spend more time working around others in pressure filled and challenging environments to hone my skills in communication and execution because I see the value of keeping calm under pressure.
As well as widely adapted skills I have also developed a variety of specific creative skills. For example, CAD skills on a range of Adobe programs including Photoshop and Illustrator. Other more hands on skills I have enjoyed honing are manufacturing and sewing on machine and details sewn by hand. I also have vastly developed my pattern cutting skills whilst learning to pattern cut a tailored jacket, jeans, coats and other garments. I enjoy being able to manipulate any seam on any garment to completely transform something from 2d to 3d as well as the accuracy and detail in the process you go through.
I grew my skills in independence and initiative when fund-raising for and traveling on a 4 week trip to Tanzania. When I was there I used physical labour to help the locals and build goat sheds and water tanks. But the most rewarding element of my trip was the 1 to 1 sewing teaching I did with Esther a 19 year old vulnerable girl from the local village. By providing her with a sewing machine and the skills needed to use it I am grateful to have been able to grow her life options and ability for her to provide for her daughter. I hope to do more things like this in my future.
I have a presence on Linked in and Instagram to promote my creative talents and enhance my employability. Details of these are on my cv that I am constantly updating to present myself and increase chances of employment. You can find my CV under the 'about' section on the tool bar above.
